YELLOWHEAD WRASSE OR NEON WRASSE
YELLOWHEAD WRASSE OR NEON WRASSE
The Yellowhead Wrasse or Neon Wrasse (Halichoeres Garnoti), is native to shallow tropical waters in the Caribbean Sea and western Atlantic Ocean. It reaches a maximum length of 7.5″ inches, and during growth both its sex and appearance change coloring at each stage. As a juvenile, it is mainly yellow with a lateral, bright-blue stripe. The Yellowhead Wrasse or Neon Wrasse in its initial phase is female with a dark-colored back, sometimes with bluish shadings, and yellow underside. Two short wavy dark lines radiate from the hind edge of each eye with dark spots on its front head — making it one of the easiest Wrasses to identify in every color phase.
We recommend a 75 gallon or larger aquarium for the Yellowhead Wrasse or Neon Wrasse requiring plenty of swimming room and excellent water conditions. They’re peaceful to other fish, but are territorial, so it is best to keep one per tank. The Yellowhead Wrasse or Neon Wrasse diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods along with a high quality marine flake and marine pellet food.
