DANBURY AQUARIUM
Long Fin Serpae Tetra
Long Fin Serpae Tetra
The Long Fin Red Minor Serpae Tetra is a peaceful, omnivorous, schooling fish that comes from South America. Long Fin Red Minor Serpae Tetra is great for the community aquarium and is extremely hardy but should be kept in schools of no less than 5 to minimize aggressive behavior. A good feeding regimen of blood worms and pelletized foods among most Tetras will also tame down aggressiveness anyway.
Hiding spaces such as rocks, plants, & driftwood are recommended to give this fish a sense of security. Tall plants should be used as this mid-level swimmer will feel more at home. Serpae Tetras will breed occasionally in an aquarium setting and a hospital or “breeding tank” may be necessary. Slightly acidic water is best for optimal breeding habits. After the eggs have been fertilized, removing the parents will be necessary to reduce the number of lost fry. Feed the fry baby brine shrimp or crushed flake food.
